The Blacklight is an anti-warrior, and sometimes anti-ranger, Arena shutdown build.

Necromancer / Mesmer 12 + 1 + 3 Curses 8 + 1 Soul Reaping 10 Inspiration Magic Desecrate Enchantments Prophecies Necromancer. Curses 16 Desecrate Enchantments Spell Target foe and all nearby foes take 64 shadow damage and 21 shadow damage for each Enchantment on them. 15 2 10 Enfeeble Prophecies Necromancer. Curses 16 Enfeeble Spell Target suffers from Weakness for 31 seconds. 5 ¼ 5 Faintheartedness Core Necromancer. Curses 16 Faintheartedness Hex Spell For the next 25 seconds, target foe attacks 50% slower, and that foe suffers -3 Health degeneration. 8 1 10 Parasitic Bond Core Necromancer. Curses 16 Parasitic Bond Hex Spell For 20 seconds, target foe suffers -1 Health degeneration. The caster is healed for 126 when Parasitic Bond ends. 2 1 5 Spiteful Spirit Prophecies Necromancer. Curses 16 Spiteful Spirit Elite Hex Spell For 21 seconds, whenever target foe attacks or uses a skill, Spiteful Spirit deals 37 shadow damage to that foe and all adjacent allies of that foe. 10 2 15 Drain Enchantment Core Mesmer. Inspiration Magic 10 Drain Enchantment Spell Remove an Enchantment from target foe. If an Enchantment is removed, you gain 14 Energy and 93 Health. 20 2 5 Inspired Hex Prophecies Mesmer. Inspiration Magic 10 Inspired Hex Spell Remove a Hex from target ally and gain 8 Energy. For 20 seconds, Inspired Hex is replaced with the Hex that was removed. 1 5 Resurrection Signet Core No Profession. Unlinked Resurrection Signet Signet Resurrect target party member. That party member is returned to life with 100% Health and 25% Energy. This Signet only recharges when you gain a morale boost. 3 Template code

[edit] Usage

This build is designed to shut down up to two warriors (or rangers). The first target is shut down by casting:

• Enfeeble
• Spiteful Spirit
• Parasitic Bond

While Spiteful Spirit is recharging, a second target is shut down with

• Enfeeble
• Faintheartedness
• Parasitic Bond

In each case, Enfeeble takes the bite out of the foes' attacks, and Parasitic Bond |covers the important hexes. Note that you should never cast both Spiteful Spirit and Faintheartedness on the same target, as the two skills counter each other to a considerable degree.

Drain Enchantment and Inspired Hex are general utility skills that are also important for energy management.

Desecrate Enchantments is a direct damage skill that is useful for spellcasters who rely on enchantments — mostly monks and elementalists.

[edit] Counters

• Spiteful Spirit has a long cast time, so interruptions work well.
• This is a spamming build, so any standard anti-spammer strategy works. Diversion, Blackout and Backfire are good choices.
• While it is a good counter to attack-based pressure builds, it has very poor direct damage dealing ability. A |spike team has little to fear, as they deal damage in bursts and can afford to wait out the dangerous hexes.

• Replace Desecrate Enchantments or Inspired Hex with Mantra of Resolve to protect against interruptions.
• Replace Drain Enchantment or Inspired Hex with Power Drain for better energy management.
• Replace Faintheartedness with Shadow of Fear for an AoE debuff.
• Replace Inspired Hex with Arcane Echo and echo Spiteful Spirit.
• Replace Parasitic Bond with Malaise if you can take the health degeneration.
